Cross-Stitch: My Main Hobby

When I was little, I loved craft kits. My mum must have bought dozens for me as birthday and Christmas presents – from candle making to crystal growing, basket weaving to jewellery making and everything in between!

But, one year, she got me a kit to make pictures using plastic canvas and yarns, not too dissimilar to these:

I loved how quick and easy they were to make, and really enjoyed seeing the picture come to life before my eyes. I was hooked.

A couple of bookmarks later, and then my grandmother started working on a cross stitch of a house. I decided I wanted to try it myself, and my addiction hobby was born!

I’ve enjoyed cross stitching almost daily since I was about 7 years old, finding it a great way to be productive whilst relaxing watching films or TV shows, and to keep my hands busy! It is very time consuming but the end results are always worth it. I haven’t kept track of all the projects I’ve done, but I will add some to this blog with links in case you would like to give them a try yourself! Below, I’ve added some of my favourite cross stitch kits and projects over the years. I get them framed at a local shop in my home town – they tape and mount the finished pieces and then handcut and set the frames, which I think gives a lovely finishing touch. It’s much more expensive than doing it yourself, but well worth it!
